Willie Haug, Jr.

Willie Haug, Jr, 74, of Odem, TX, entered into eternal rest on March 17, 2022.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who did a lot of stuff but never wanted anyone to know about it.  He did not want any praise or notice even though he touched the lives of many through teaching, coaching at Odem ISD for 33 years, and serving Christ particularly at St. John Lutheran Church in Robstown.

Much of his childhood was spent outdoors, and that love of nature followed him throughout his life.  He was happiest farming, gardening, hunting, and spending hours upon hours at the family ranch in Freer, TX.  He was a thinker who constantly raised questions about all subjects, and his engineering mind enabled him to fix the “unfixable” and accomplish difficult projects with relative ease.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Florine; son, Kevin Haug and wife Dawna; daughter, Laura Van Poppel and husband Scott; grandchildren, Kiera, Kaylee, and Kevin, Jr. Haug and Payton and Ian Van Poppel; brother, Ronnie Haug and wife Jane; and sister, Lucy Haug and friend, Becky Gould as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Estella Haug.
