William Dog” Iii

Bill was born in Albany, New York on March 24, 1953. He and his family moved to Houston when he was a teenager where his father worked at NASA on the Lunar Missions. He graduated from the University of Texas and it was in Austin where he met his wife, Lynn, on the basketball court at Gregory Gym. They have both been lovers of sports ever since. Bill and Lynn both coached basketball and taught in San Antonio until he became a banker. He received a Masters Degree from Southern Methodist University's School of Banking. He was the vice-president of Schertz Bank and Trust, president of The Bank of Robstown, and president of Pacific Southwest Bank. Bill was a consultant with Entrust Health Insurance and he cherished the new friendships that he established with his new work family. He loved Corpus Christi and served as chairman of many boards such as The United Way, the Red Cross, Y.M.C.A. and the Texas Education Service Center. He was especially proud of his work as Chairman of the Port of Corpus Christi and the friendships that he and Lynn made with all who work there. In 2004, the Port of Corpus Christi honored him by dedicating the Port Security Command Center in his name. Bill was a central figure in creating a relationship with Taiwan and China, which he and Lynn visited, and establishing the "Sister Cities" concept. He was an avid runner who ran many marathons, including the Boston Marathon which he competed in twice. He and Lynn enjoyed traveling the U.S. for Bill to run his races. His life was changed by his Walk to Emmaus journey and the Christian influence of many of his friends. He and Lynn made some great friends and lots of memories with all of his Sunday morning Agua Java running buddies. Anyone who knew Bill knows how much he loves his two dogs, Batman and Raider. They both accompanied Bill and Lynn wherever they went. Bill was also known for his generosity and charity. He had a loving heart as he donated much of himself to charitable organizations. He always held a special place in his heart for children of all ages; from infants to teens, all kids loved "Uncle Bill." He was never too busy to give a hug, tell a joke or play a thrilling game of "monster" with the little ones around him. He and Lynn "Wallace" have two daughters that he loved with all his heart, Jenny "Wart" Dodge and Jessie "Piglet" (Dodge) Aric. They have one son-in-law who they love, Branko Aric. Bill is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughters, Jenny Dodge and Jessie (Branko) Aric; parents, William Dayton Dodge Jr. and Judy Dodge; brother, Randy (Lynne) Dodge; sisters, Debbie (Nick) Bradshaw, and Sue (Kenny) Wright. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews who he loved to visit; Linlee & Jesse Carbajal, Matt & Emeigh Carper, Luke Carper, Ben, Nathan, and Lauren Bradshaw, Samantha and Taylor Sears, Dayton and Connor Dodge, Hailey Cunningham, Scott & Amanda Lawrence, Joe Russell & Emily Roach, Jaymee Roach and Jace Bedynek. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sawyer- George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard Street, Corpus Christi, TX 78410. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 3115 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, TX 78404.
