William Daws, Sr.

William Edward Daws, Sr. passed away Friday, July 21st , 2017 in League City, Texas. He was born March 27th, 1925 in Woodson, Texas to Grace and Turner Daws. After high school in Woodson, he attended Tarleton State University before entering the U. S. Army in 1943. He served with the 70th Infantry Division as a medic until the end of the war. After completing his service, he returned to the states and worked various jobs. He then entered North Texas State University where he earned his degree in education. North Texas State is where he met his wife of 56 years, Betty Wilson. He began his teaching career in Lovington, New Mexico, where he also earned his master’s degree at Eastern New Mexico State. In 1963, he and Betty chose to move to Corpus Christi where they taught in the Tuloso-Midway school district for the next 23 years. Upon retirement, Bill began another career selling books to librarians all over south Texas until 2000. Over the years, Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Kiwanis, and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He also served on the Tuloso- Midway Education Foundation Board. Bill is known to so many in his family and former students for his passion to tell his story of World War II and the price of freedom. He also had a passion for Indian history and hunting arrowheads. He traveled the United States and the world and never met a stranger. Bill is survived by his son, Bill Daws, Jr. and wife Deanna of League City, his daughter, Debbie Daws Robertson and husband Chuck of College Station, Texas; his four grandchildren are Courtney Kalaher and husband Jonathan of Houston, Blake Robertson and wife Lisa of Friendswood , Kristin Dailey and husband Craig of Friendswood and Ashley Hosek and husband Curtis of League City. His great grandchildren are Keighly, Caden, Corey, Kassidy, Wyatt, Charlie, Sophie, Amelia, Maeve and Lucas. He is also survived by his brothers, Charlie and wife Pat Daws of Mathis, Texas and Ben and wife Betty Daws of Throckmorton, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be at Sawyer-George Funeral Home on Friday, July 28th , 2017 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be at Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 29th , 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Cenzio Hill Cemetery in Mathis Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you please make donations to the Tuloso-Midway Education Foundation or the charity of your choice.
