William Ross Atkinson, Jr. passed away Friday, April 11, 2014. He was born in El Paso, Texas on March 23, 1926 to William Ross and Alta Stallings Atkinson. He lived in Karnes City, Texas before moving to Robstown in 1951. He married Flora Jean Conger on October 20, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of River Hills Baptist Church, life endowed member of the Masonic Alamita Lodge #200 A.F.&A.M. of Kennedy, Texas. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite of San Antonio Consistory, member of the Al Amin Shrine Temple and the V.F.W. He was a veteran of WWII serving in Germany. Ross worked for the Karnes County REA for five years before joining Tenneco in Agua Dulce in 1951. He retired from Tenneco in 1986 after thirty-five years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Martha Atkinson Taylor and Mary Atkinson. He is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Flora Jean (Conger) Atkinson of Robstown, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Tom Ross and Candy Atkinson of Robstown, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Mike Buchanan of Corpus Christi, Texas; two brothers, Jessie (Pat) and John (Elaine) Atkinson of Victoria, Texas; five grandchildren, Lacey Davis of Houston, Texas, John Atkinson of Portland, Texas, Megan and Hunter Haberzettle of Corpus Christi, Texas; Sabrina Millard of Carrizo Springs, Texas; one great granddaughter, Kaylee Davis of Houston, Texas; two great grandsons, Christian and Matthew Millard of Carrizo Springs, Texas; four sisters-in-law, Penny (Charles) Wimberly, Uvalde, Texas, Ann Jones of Luck Wisconsin; Doris (Albert) Gantz of Tomball, Texas, Shirley (Jerry) Apodaco of Houston and brother-in-law Albert Conger of Alvin, Texas. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with Masonic Memorial Service starting at 6:00 P.M. Monday, April 14, 2014 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Military Honors and graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in the Karnes County Cemetery in Karnes City, Texas with Bro. Jody Simmons officiating. Pallbearers will be John Atkinson, Hunter Haberzettle, Claude Otohal, Bob Howze, Lee Melde and Harold McCoulough .
