Wilburn Hughes

Wilburn Leroy Hughes, passed away on August 21, 2016. Wilburn was born on May 14, 1923 in Odem, Texas to his parents, Jesse L. Hughes and Alta Laura Wright Hughes. He attended school in Sinton, Texas. Wilburn served in the U. S. Air Force with the 8th Air Force 351 bomb group, 510 squad during World War II in England. His citations were five air medals, distinguished flying cross and the presidential citation. Wilburn was associated with the tractor business for 47 years and owned Nueces Ford Tractor until his retirement in 1993. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Frances E. Custer Hughes on August 18, 1978. Wilburn is survived by his wife, Margaret K. Hughes; children, Roger Keys of Odem, Texas, Karol Dutton of Houston, Texas and Elizabeth Smith of Odem, Texas; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Sinton Cemetery.
