Weldon C. West, Jr., 90, of Banquete, Texas, passed away Friday, February 18, 2011. He was born January 23, 1921 in Bishop, Texas to William C. and Eva Young West. Mr. West graduated as the valedictorian of Banquete High School in 1938 and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He and his wife lived in McAllen, Texas for 43 years and they owned and operated a Western Auto Store in McAllen and then he worked for Sears & Roebuck Company for 28 years, managing five departments. He was a member and Deacon in Calvary Baptist Church in McAllen where he was a sponsor of the youth group. After moving to Corpus Christi he became active with Bible Believers Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, Lenox West, Willa Fay McNair, Marsolette Harper, LaVerne LeBleu, Carmelita West, Floyd West, Glen West and Nan Fox. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gwendolyn Holder West of Banquete, Texas; 19 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 1 P.M until 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Monday, February 21, 2011 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bevans Welder officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 P.M. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, Texas. Burial will follow. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Budde, Monte, Paul and Marty West, Chad and Bruce Fox, Richard LeBleu, Scott Lawrence, Jace Bedynek and Joe Roach.
