Wanda Rozelle Oden

Wanda Rozelle Oden, 90, lived a beautiful, dignified life, leaving this earth and her family peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2023. A beautiful woman who spread joy and happiness wherever she went. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend who was always there when she was needed. Wanda was born March 30, 1933 in Lamesa, Texas to Hero and Edith Mitchell. While attending Sundown High School she met the love of her life, RL Oden, who preceded her in death, after more than 45 years of love and marriage.

After high school, Wanda attended Texas Tech University, before graduating from Texas A&I University, and moving in to her life long career of teaching. Wanda was a devoted educator, teaching at Round-Top Carmine High School, Skidmore-Tynan High School, Mathis High School, Tuloso-Midway High School before retiring from Calallen High School after more than 30 years of teaching. Her love for teaching found her teaching many subjects including special education and homemaking.

Wanda was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, R.L. Oden and her son, David Lynn Oden. Surviving Wanda to carry on her teachings and passions, are her daughter, Susan Annette Sharpe of Odem, and her son, William Matt (Wendy) Oden of Baytown. Surviving grandchildren include Raleigh (Brooklyn), Cheston, Grace, Amber and Samantha and her great-granddaughter, Bailey.

A public graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 10:00AM at Robstown Memorial Parkway Cemetery (FM 1889). Although we are saddened by her death, her family are comforted in knowing that she received the best care available. A special thank-you to Corpus Christi Hospice, Dr. Mark Rasmusson, Dr. Ray Graf and Dr. Sabeen Din for their compassionate care; the sensitivity and support of yourself and your staff helped us through a difficult time and we will never forget your kindness.
