Tony Ortega

Tony Ortega, a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away in Corpus Christi on April 9th, 2023, at the age of 56.

Tony was born to Andres Ortega and Dolores Ortega (Rivas) on June 2nd, 1966 in Sinton, Texas. Tony graduated from Gregory-Portland High School in 1985, and received his CNA from Del Mar College in 2007.

Tony was a musician and artist most of his life. Tony’s grin was always biggest when he was performing in any venue big or small, especially when his friends were there to enjoy it with him. Tony had one passion beyond music, and everything else in his life. His love and devotion to all of his children and especially his granddaughter, Louise. Tony was an absolutely fierce provider and protector for all his girls, and would stop at nothing to make sure they felt loved at all times.

Tony was also an amazing friend. Even when his bills were tight and he wasn’t feeling his best, he would appear to help his friends with anything they needed, including canned goods he didn’t want or remember how he got, but he was sure you could use whether you agreed or not. When Tony was around you were guaranteed to get amazing, if occasionally off-color jokes that never failed to impress; and for those who know him best, the amazing challenge of his keen fashion sense.

Tony always seemed to become quick family to everyone he met, and his absence will be felt by so many folks we may never know.

Tony was preceded by his parents, Andres Ortega and Dolores Ortega (Rivas); his siblings, Aida Ortega and Aurora Ortega. He is survived by his siblings, Andy Ortega, Albert Ortega, Allen Ortega, and Alicia Ortega; his daughters, Gia Ortega, Mystery DeLeon, Jade DeLeon and Jordice Sandoval and granddaughter, Louise.

A Celebration of Life for Tony will be held on Saturday, April 29th, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard Street.
