Teresa H. Diaz was called home to God's loving arms on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. She was born on July 3, 1932 in Laredo, Texas and lived there until age 9. Although she grew up with modest means, her mother, Beatriz, instilled in her and her siblings the values of generosity, compassion for others, family, and love for God and Our Blessed Mother. In Corpus Christi she met the love of her life, Gerardo, while he visited during the popular Buccaneer Day celebration. Her radiant red hair, amazing smile, and sweet personality captured his heart. They were married in 1963 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas and then moved to Laredo, Texas where they raised a family. Her three daughters, Alma, Laura, and Lorena were her pride and joy. She dedicated her life to her family while passing on the same values she had learned from her mother. She served her church, Holy Redeemer, and friends in need with a kind and generous heart. She later devoted her life to her grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, and Matthew Vela. Before she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2007, her life was always about putting others first. When she could no longer care for herself, her family lovingly cared for her. She was preceded in death by her mother, Beatriz Hernandez; brothers, Antonio Hernandez, Jose Lilo Flores, Servando Flores; and sister, Guadalupe Viera. She is survived by her dear husband, Gerardo; her daughters, Alma Diaz, Laura Diaz, and Lorena (Cesario) Vela; and grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, and Matthew Vela. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Christine Hernandez, Bertha (Jaime) Delgado, Esperanza Diaz, Perla Diaz, and Alicia Gonzalez plus numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 A.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel.
