Susie Elaine Black

Susie Elaine Black, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, August 14th. She was 74 years old. Elaine was born in Sweetwater, Tx in 1947 to parents Irene and O. B. Barrett. Much of her favorite childhood memories were times spent with Doris, her cousin, and going to drag races with her dad and brother. While still in high school she met the love of her life, Mike, and the two were married in Abilene in 1965. Elaine had three children. She worked as a long-term substitute teacher, at a center for special-needs students, and when the family moved to Agua Dulce in 1981, for the Alice ISD as a secretary for the Food Service Director. Family and church were her two greatest passions in life and Elaine worked hard to make life better for others. She loved trips to see friends and relatives, family vacations, playing games, George Strait, and watching football and basketball. “Momo” as Elaine was affectionately called flourished in her later years. She drug “Popo” all over the state to visit and watch her 4 grandchildren in whatever endeavor they were participating in, and was sure to tell all who would listen just how great they all were. She also loved going on “Cousins Trips”, traveling with Mike, and going to football games. Elaine was always trying new things and looking for ways to serve others. She so enjoyed life and loving on people and eagerly awaited each June when she would go to Camp Bandina. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Kenneth Barrett, and her sister Jo Champion. She is survived by her husband, Mike, sons Kelly (Lisa) and Mickey, and daughter Mendi Tunison (Andy). Four grandchildren, Cameron and Eric Boucher, and Austin and Derek Black. Elaine’s family will celebrate her life at the Morningside Drive Church of Christ in Alice on August 28th at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage any donations in her honor to be made to Camp Bandina.
