Sue Carter

1942 — January 1, 2022

Corpus Christi

Sue Anthanette McBryde Carter, age 80, went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Sue was born on March 16, 1942, to Doris and Marion Walter “M.W.” McBryde in Seymour, Texas.

Sue grew up in Midland, Texas and graduated in 1960 from Midland High School, with her sweetheart, Jerry Carter.

She married Jerry on June 4, 1962 in Midland, Texas and then joined him in College Station where he completed his education at Texas A&M University. They had 3 children, Douglas Wayne, Daniel Layne and Susan Elaine.

Sue had a passion for decorating and was truly gifted at turning a house into a beautiful and welcoming home for her family. She kept a spotless home and enjoyed being a homemaker. Sue was also a wonderful cook. She was a natural green thumb and loved creating beautiful yards and caring for her plants. She had almost 200 houseplants for many years.

Sue was a wonderful hostess and enjoyed family gatherings, especially ones that included board games with all the kids. She spent weeks decorating each room in her home before every holiday and turned it into a stunning showplace for all to enjoy. Another favorite past time included sewing intricate Christmas stockings for her husband, children and grandchildren. She made over 50, each taking months of detailed work. Sue was the go-to if you needed hemming, mending, custom clothing or a spectacular costume.

Sue loved giving gifts and was a generous and thoughtful gift giver. She also looked forward to unwrapping and opening her own gifts. Some of her favorite presents included jewelry and purses, which Jerry lovingly lavished upon her for every occasion.

Sue enjoyed traveling with her family and was blessed to visit so many beautiful places with them.

No matter if you knew her as Sue, Momma or Grannie, you know she will be greatly missed, but we will meet again one beautiful day.

She is preceded in death by her father, M.W. McBryde; mother, Doris McBryde; niece, Mary Ann McBryde; brother-in-law, Kenneth “Kenny” McPherson; sister-in-law, Shirley McBryde; and great-nephew, Tyler Kirby.

She is survived by husband Jerry Carter, brothers Carl McBryde, Bob McBryde and Marion (Mona) McBryde and sister Kay McPherson. She is also survived by sons Douglas (Maria) Carter and Daniel (Molly) Carter;  daughter, Susan (Steve) Majek; grandchildren, Matthew (Jackie), Maisie (Zachary), Melissa, Joshua (Mallory), Lauren, Analisa Cantu, Madelaine, Wilson, and Adrian Cantu; one great-grandchild, Talan; and her sweet dog, Maxwell and numerous nieces and nephews.

Public visitation will be held on Monday, May 30, 2022 from 6pm-8pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 12:30pm at Arlington Heights Church of Christ. Graveside will follow at Memory Gardens.
