Shurley Masur

Shurley A. Masur, after a short battle with cancer, made her journey home on January 8, 2012. She was born February 2, 1930 in Galesburg, Illinois to Arthur and Gladys Anderson. Shurley retired after serving twenty-five years as executive assistant for the local U.S. Congressman's office. She also volunteered with Spohn Auxiliary serving as local chapter president as well as state president. She was the co-founder of the Run In JM 4H Club, proudly serving the youth as manager and volunteer for over 50 years. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church and a dedicated member of the choir. She was adored and loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Masur, her parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister, She is survived by her children, Jim (Gail) Masur, Elaine (Mike) Pittman; beloved granddaughter, Kaitlyn Pittman; Godchildren, Betty Berry and Sue Gray and her lifelong friend Patricia Gray. The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, 3901 Violet Rd. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Morgan Rowsome as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donnie Watkins, Ronnie King, Royce Cameron, Murray Smith, Justin Ramsey, Jeremy Berry. The family wishes to give special thanks to the caregivers at Odyssey Hospice, especially Alma, Karen, Michelle and Bill. Also to Dr. Martin and Kay.
