Shirley Vickery

Shirley Marie Vickery, born May 2, 1936, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 21, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Peggy Gilbert; her sister, Pat; and brothers, Troy, and Jimmy Gilbert.  Shirley is also predeceased by her son, Michael Vickery and son-in-law, David Najvar.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Oliver S. (Pancho) Vickery; daughters, Theresa Witte of Raleigh, North Carolina, Lisa Mokry of Corpus Christi, Texas; and son, Mark Vickery of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Janice Howerton of Calallen; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

We will miss so much about our Mom.  She was a beautiful, intelligent, and independent woman.  Mom always had a green thumb and loved working with flowers.  She opened Annaville Florist fifty years ago; she was passionate about her business and loved serving her clients, many of whom were friends or quickly became friends. Through her example, we learned the value of a great work ethic. She taught us the joy in giving as we witnessed her doing so much for so many over the years, never looking for anything in return.  She was actively involved in St. Peters Church; Mom personified the true meaning of a good and faithful servant.

Mom was so thankful for all those who demonstrated their love for her over the last several months of her life.  A huge thank you to Janice Howerton and her son, Darrell, for exceeding any reasonable expectations in their love and care.  Our family extends a special thank you to Lisa Mokry, for her complete and unselfish devotion to our Mom as her health declined over the past year.  Additionally, our family feels indebted to Darrell and Rhonda McCain. The McCains have been the most incredible neighbors.  Mom had a special relationship with Rhonda and was so appreciative of her love and care over the past few years. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary followed by the Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Peters Church on January 11, 2023 and will begin at 2:00 p.m. If you would like to make a gift in Honor of Shirley Vickery, she would have loved for any gifts to go to St. Peters Church.
