Sara Claire Glenn Hamilton, 92, passed away on March 17, 2022 at her home. She was born on March 9, 1930 in Amory, Mississippi to Martin Arthur and Ava Burleson Glenn. Claire was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son Robert Martin Hamilton, her husband Cecil Robert Hamilton and her sister Carol Glenn Rustad.
Claire married Cecil Robert Hamilton on April 2, 1950. She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Sue Hamilton Martin (Lorenzo), and Debra Lynn Hamilton Nolfi (Eugene); a granddaughter, Kimberly Dolan Howell (Ryan); sisters, Martha Glenn Murphree, Kay Glenn Graham, Jean Glenn Senn (George Carlson); and brother, John Martin Glenn (Pamla Jo).
She attended Pan American Junior College, Edinburg, Texas, and Del Mar College, Corpus Christi earning an Associates of Arts degree in 1966.
Claire was an avid reader and enjoyed researching various topics. Her faith was an integral part of her life and she volunteered at her church library. She adored creating beautiful quilts that she gifted to family members. She enjoyed making and was known for her delicious chocolate crackle cookies as well as her famous Coke Cherry Jello Salad. She was very funny and playful with an incredible sense of humor. In 1991 she retired from Magee Elementary School where she served as a library aide.
Highlights of her life after retirement included walking around a mountain in Denali National Park, Alaska; visiting Niagara Falls; taking a few trips to Canada; making the trip of a lifetime to England and France; walking through the Olympic National Park and Quinault Rain Forest in Washington; and especially attending the annual Glenn Girls Family reunions at a beach resort in Corpus Christi.
She loved her friends and family very much and never held back her warm hugs and “I love you’s.”
Visitation will be from 11:00am to 12:00noon, and the service at 12:30pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Tuloso-Midway Baptist Church, 9774 Leopard Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410.
Private interment will take place at the Coastal Bend State Veteran’s Cemetery, Corpus Christi, Texas.
