Sally Garwood Robeau, 87, passed away on February 6, 2021 at her home in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born on November 19, 1933 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Robert B. and Hazel Priour Garwood.
From an early age, Sally knew she wanted to be a wife, mom, and a teacher. She married the love of her life, Ruel, in 1954 and they had 5 children together. They were happily married for 51 years. While raising their young family, Sally finished college with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education from Texas A&I University, wrote a book on her maternal family’s history and began her career and calling as a teacher. In the 1970s, Sally began her teaching career at Calallen ISD where she taught Texas and American History in an active, “make it real” way. Sally lived out her calling in the way she cared for, challenged and helped her students to learn. She truly loved others. In 1988, she was honored as the Daughters of the American Revolution’s National History Teacher of the year. Throughout her career, she was recognized many times for her teaching success. She retired after 25 years.
As a fourth generation Corpus Christian, Sally loved local history and served in many capacities as a local historian. She and her middle school junior historian group moved and restored the Nuecestown Schoolhouse for local history to live on. Sally organized Pioneer Days for many years so that young students could see history in action and learn of olden days.
Sally was preceded in death by her spouse, Ruel; her granddaughter Kayla Robeau Helford; her sisters Marilyn Glass and Charlotte Dudney; daughter-in-law, Cordy Uribe Robeau.
Sally is survived by her children James (Donna) Robeau of Corpus Christi, TX, Steve (Diane) Robeau of Portland, TX, David (Nancy) Robeau of Corpus Christi, TX, Cathy (Darryl) Campbell of Corpus Christi, TX, Cheri (Tony) McCormick of Corpus Christi, TX; her brother Gordon (Fiona) Garwood of Wylie, TX; her nine grandchildren Katrina McDonough, Zane (Candace) Campbell, Kyle (Joslyn) Robeau, Adam (Lindsay) Robeau, Christy (Larissa) Abrego, Stephen Robeau, Chris Robeau, Ethan (Hannely) McCormick; her twelve great-grandchildren Erabella, Zayden, Austin, Gracie, Jackson, Olivia, Natalie, Madison, Payton, Harper, Nehemiah and Ezra; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
The Robeau family greatly appreciates the wonderful caregivers that gave such “beautiful” care to our mother throughout her Alzheimer’s journey. The way each of you loved Sally touched our hearts. And we sincerely appreciate the Harbor Hospice individuals who cared for Sally so well through her final journey here on earth.
A Private Graveside Service will be held for the family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to https://www.alzheimersresearchfoundation.com/make-a-donation/.
