Roy L. de la Houssaye, Sr., 88, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011. He was born November 25, 1922 in St. Martinville, Louisiana to Sydney and Odile Maraist de la Houssaye. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII having served in the 2nd Armored Division known as "Hell On Wheels". He retired as a superintendent of Suntide-Koch Refinery, enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances de la Houssaye; his daughter, Marjo Bel and his brother, Fred de la Houssaye. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Roy, Jr. "Pete" and Marianne de la Houssaye; his son-in-law, Fred Bel; his brothers, Sydney and Johnny de la Houssaye; his grandchildren, Monique (Kevin), Clint (Allison), Brent, Dustin (Jimma) and Rus (Meg); his great grandchildren; Brette, Brooke, Brenna, Briggen, Brayson, Benjamin and Zoe; special thanks to his adopted family, Sol, Luz, Angie, Kathy and Maria Mungia, Radiation Oncologists, Doctors Regional Hospital Emergency, ICU and Staff, Angel Bright Hospice Care including Jerry, Dr. Piner and all of their staff, Palma Real Mathis Nursing Home and staff that named Roy the "Gentle Giant", and his favorite companion, Rooster, his Chihuahua. Visitation will be from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Monday, July 25, 2011 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Michael Howell as celebrant. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Odem, Texas. Pallbearers will be Clint, Brent and Dustin Busenlehner, Kevin Usner, Jim Wolford and Rus Bel. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Hamilton, Marvin West, Poncho Vickery, Ronnie Osburn, Ike Orsack, Floyd Menard and Terry Lee.
