Rolando Tijerina

Rolando Alvaro Tijerina, 82, of Corpus Christi, TX and formerly of Laredo, passed away peacefully at his home and joined our Lord on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019. Rolando was born in Dec. of 1937. Upon graduation from MHS, Class of '57, he and his twin brother, Ricardo, joined the USAF serving for eight years. In 1962, he married his hometown girlfriend, Thelma Moreno. They lived in CA for some time and then settled in TX where he worked for Lockheed and later for Mobil. In July of 1981 his wife, Thelma, passed away of cancer. He remarried again, first to Cathy Davis who helped him raised his four children and then to Palmira Sanchez. Later in life, with the support of his children, he adapted to being single and was able to manage his home adequately. Rolo was an honest, responsible and caring father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife of 18 years; Thelma Moreno Tijerina, his parents; Alvaro and Socorro (Martinez) Tijerina, his brother and sister-in-law; Eduardo H. Tijerina and Aurora (Rodriguez) Tijerina, his sister; Leonor T. Sullivan, his brothers-in-law; Jose Ignacio Martinez Jr., Jesse David Coe Sr., Carlos Moreno III, his parents-in-law; Carlos Jr. and Dora (Herrera) Moreno and stepson; Joseph Eric Reyna. Left to cherish his memory are his loving children David Tijerina, Mark (Sara) Tijerina, John Tijerina, Thelma (Thomas) Mathisen, Veronica (Joe) Agee, Danielle Reyna, his brothers; Ricardo (Dolores) Tijerina, Dennis (Marta) Tijerina, his sisters; Diana T. Martinez, Virginia T. Coe, Cynthia (Frank) Aguilar, brothers-in-law; John F. Sullivan Sr., Juan Jesus (Maria del Carmen) Moreno, uncle; Samuel Sr. (Estela) Tijerina, sister-in-law; Dora Alicia (Moreno) Penalver, 12 grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The viewing is at 10:30 A.M., Friday, January 3, 2020 and the graveside services will be at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 P.M.
