Rodrigo R. Gonzalez, age 77, passed away surrounded by his family on March 6, 2016. Rodrigo was born August 4, 1938 in Mazapil, Zacatecas, Mexico. He came to the United States at age 12 as a student where he attended school in Kingsville, Texas. He attended Mississippi College where he played baseball and track. He later obtained his Associates of Arts in Liberal Arts degree from East Central Junior College in Decatur, Mississippi. He attended Mississippi State University in Canton, Mississippi. He remained a member of the Mississippi College Alumni association and the Mississippi College Athletic Association. He worked 25 years and retired from Celanese Chemical Co. in Clarkwood, Texas where he was an organist chemist. He loved to play golf and was a 40 year member and Club Champion at River Hills Country Club. His golfing highlight was when he won a 1985 Ford Thunderbird for a hole-in-one during a tournament in April of 1985. Along with his golf he loved to travel, listen to classical music, and was known by all as a wonderful dancer. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Rodrigo R. Gonzalez, Sr. and Clarissa Gonzalez-Hinojosa and his in-laws, Antonio B. Valdez Sr. and Tomasa Valdez. Rodrigo is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Rosario V. Gonzalez and his two children, Yvonne Gonzalez of San Antonio, TX and Rodrigo R. Gonzalez, III who is an FBI Agent in D.C. and Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves, (his wife, Kerri) of Ashburn, VA; his three grandchildren, Grant Thomas Gonzalez, Jackson Mitchell Gonzalez, and Blair Catherine Gonzalez; sisters, Clemintina Wilson, Rosalinda and( her husband, Elias) Guerrero of Houston, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a rosary recited at 7:00pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Bill Marquis as celebrant. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Robstown.
