Robert Southard

Robert Downer Southard, age 87, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away March 21, 2011. He was born in Greensboro, Alabama on June 4, 1923 to Benton Montgomery Southard, Sr. and Minnie Downer Southard. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. After the war he returned to Southard Lumber Company in Ponce De Leon, Florida. He moved to Texas in 1956 and started R.D. Southard Cotton Gin, which he owned for seventeen years. After that he owned his own remodeling contractor business until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Benton Montgomery Southard. He is survived by his wife, Patty Lou Southard of Corpus Christi, Texas; sons, George Robert "Bobby" (Virginia) Southard of Robstown, Texas, Dallas Franklin (Judy) Southard of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jack Montgomery (Maria) Southard of Corpus Christi, Texas; granddaughter, Patty Jo (Andrew) James of Houston, Texas, Cynthia Vargas of College Station, Texas; great grand sons, Taylor George James of Houston, Texas, Dylan Robert James of Houston, Texas Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday March 23, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Sawyer-George Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in the Robstown Memorial Park.
