Robert Owens

Robert “RL” Owens was born in Desdemona, Texas on October 26, 1931 to Jack and Oleta Owens. RL married his sweetheart, Mary Jean Allen in 1953 and then graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Soon after, he was drafted into the US Army and served 2 years working in Intelligence during the Korean War. RL owned and operated Owens Engineering Surveying Company in Alice, Texas, serving as Jim Wells County Surveyor for over 50 years.

RL is preceded in death by his two sons, Stan and Gary Owens, and grandson, Walker Owens.

RL is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Owens; sons, James “Wes” Owens, and Byron Owens. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Amber, Josh, Jamie, Katie, Lunden, Kaden, Holland, Ireland, Bricen and Liv, and two great grandchildren, Bronson and Addison, along with many other family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 5:00PM - 8:00PM at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 11:30AM at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
