Richard Womack

Richard H. Womack passed away on March 31, 2019. He was born in Houston, TX on March 1, 1924 to the late Faunce and Lee Womack. After graduating high school in 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Force as an Air Crew Member specializing in aircraft armament during World War II. He served as Staff Sergeant with the 23rd Fighter Group and participated in the China Offensive, China Defensive, and India Burma campaigns. The 23rd Fighter Group was cited for their outstanding performance, as they were able to turn back 70,000 Japanese offensive troops, even after the Allied ground defensive stand failed. He was extremely proud of his service to his country. His involvement in the aforementioned campaigns earned him 3 Bronze Stars, 3 Overseas Service Bars, 1 Good Conduct Medal, 1 Victory Ribbon, 1 American Theater Campaign Medal, and 1 European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. After being honorable discharged from the Military, Richard went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in geology from the University of Houston in 1949. He spent his profession career working for various petroleum exploration companies and spent the last 30+ years of his life as an independent petroleum geologist. Richard was also a loving husband and father to wife his Chaloeung and son Richard Jr. He enjoyed taking his family on vacations, and many weekends were spent driving the family to Richard Jr's soccer games, or visiting his family in Houston. Richard will be missed and will be remembered as a kind, caring, and positive figure to his close family and friends. A short service with military honors will be at the Coastal Bend State Veteran's Cemetery on April 12, 2019 at 2 pm in Corpus Christi, TX. People can start arriving at the cemetery's main office at 1:45pm.
