Richard Arlen Terry, 86, of Corpus Christi, went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2025. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on October 7, 1938, to Olion Pearson and Nellie Mae Terry.
Richard graduated from Calallen High School in 1957. He went on to attend Del Mar College to complete prerequisites and it was there that he met his wife of 62 years, Nora Jean Wright. They dated 4 years and married on September 1, 1962. In the first year of their marriage, she supported him as he finished his degree. He earned a Bachelor of Science in General Engineering from Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas.
Richard was a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas and had a 32-year career as a civil engineer at the Texas Department of Transportation. He worked in design and construction of many roads and bridges in the Corpus Christi area and retired in 1994. He went on to work for 4 additional years for a private engineering firm.
His personal relationship with Jesus Christ was a very important part of his life. Richard and his wife, Nora, both accepted Christ at a young age and were charter members of Annaville Baptist Church, attending faithfully. They ensured that they and their family were actively involved in the church and Richard and Nora held various leadership roles over the years.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. His love of hunting carried over to an interest in gun collecting and archery. He was a member of the South Texas Gun Collectors, where he attended various gun shows to display and trade his collection. He was also a member of Tejas Bowmen Archery Club where he participated in archery competitions. For him, archery was the purest form of hunting.
His biggest passion of all was fishing. He loved his boat, catching redfish on artificial lures and spending time with friends and family on the water. Along with fishing, he enjoyed camping trips with his family and spending time outdoors.
He also enjoyed many activities at home. He and his wife loved watching old movies, particularly westerns starring actors like John Wayne and Sam Elliott just to name a few. He also followed sports like the Calallen Wildcats on radio and the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers on TV. Richard enjoyed woodworking in his workshop crafting handmade mesquite wood domino sets and making some basic furniture pieces over the years. Richard loved gardening and each spring he planted varieties of vegetables and enjoyed tending the garden and for sure, the harvest.
He was raised by parents who grew up in the Great Depression and that formed his outlook on life. He was very frugal and took pride in doing things himself. He recognized the value of hard work and instilled that value into his children. He was a fighter and never gave up
on the possibility of doing things better or getting back home during the last few weeks of his illness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Olion Pearson Terry, his mother, Nellie Mae Terry Davenport, his brother, Dean Pearson Terry, and his sister, Nelda Patricia Worden.
He is survived by his wife, Nora Jean Terry, and his three children, nine grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. His children and grandchildren include a son, Keith Allan Terry and wife Amy Terry of Spring, Texas and grandchildren, Christian Terry, and Ashton Burrow (Chris), daughter, Arla Kay Vickery and husband Alan Vickery of Anahuac, Texas and grandchildren Skylar Stein (Derek), Kyla Heredia (Renzo), and Conner and Caleb Vickery, daughter Kathy Lynn Weintraub and husband Dan Weintraub of McKinney, Texas and grandchildren, Jenna, Hailey and Ryan Weintraub.
