Richard Blumberg, age 71, of Lagarto, Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011. He was a loving husband, a wonderful dad, a caring grandfather, great grandfather and a very much loved friend. Richard was born on July 10, 1940 in Robstown, Texas to Rudolph and Georgia Blumberg. He served his country in the United States Navy, was a Radioman and Morse Code Operator stationed on Midway Island. He was a heavy equipment owner-operator for Blumberg Backhoe Service and was known as "The Dirtman". He was a great musician and loved playing the guitar, steel guitar and singing. He played with several stars in his lifetime including Loretta Lynn, Charlie Pride, Tammy Wynette, Freddy Fender, Frenchy Burke and Roy Clark just to name a few. He was a member of St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church, Lagarto Community Church, Knights of Columbus, Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his father, Rudolph, sister, Mary Moran, son, Tony Ware and grandson, Mitchell Price. He is survived by his mother, Georgia of Corpus Christi, Texas; his wife of 39 years, Irene; his son; Frank (Betsy) Blumberg; his daughters, Donna (Joe) Ware, Debbie Ware (Billy) Thomas; his sister, Rita DeShields; his brothers, Jimmy (Olivia) Blumberg, Gary (Elaine) Blumberg; George (Sandy) Blumberg; his grandchildren, Bryan (Katherine) Campbell, Jenna Campbell, Brandon (Whitney) Price, Nicole (Trent) Socha, Shane (Joe) Price, Justin (Gracie) Thomas, Billy (Bull) Thomas, Brittany Thomas; his great grandchildren, Jonathan, Bailee, Emilee Campbell; Kyle, Justine, Ashton, Raelynn Thomas; Averi Socha, Caden Price, Isaiah, Taylor, Paul and Cole Spencer; several nieces and nephews. He was a great inspiration to all that knew him and will be greatly missed. We would like to thank Vista Care for all they have done. Visitation and viewing will be on Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at 11:00 A.M. followed by the Celebration of the Funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Michael Howell as celebrant. Burial will follow at Robstown Memorial Park Pallbearers will be Gary Blumberg, George Blumberg, Billy Thomas, Joe Longoria, Bobby Waldrop and Dave Hellman. Honorary Pallbearers include all the great musicians that he enjoyed so much. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to the American Cancer Society.
