Ret. Police Capt. Jerry L. “Curly” Mathis, age 77, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 after a brief battle with lymphoma. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 1, 1938 to Boyd and Kathleen Mathis. He was a police officer with the Corpus Christi Police Department for 39 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Emery. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara London Mathis; daughter, Renee (Randy) Hale; sons, Chuck (Michelle) Mathis, Gary (Sandra) Mathis and Ken (Monica) Mathis; sister, Peggy (Roger) Poe; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Thursday, February 18, 2016 in Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Friday, February 19, 2016 at Calallen Baptist Church with his son, Rev. Gary Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calallen Baptist Church.
