Renee Matchett, age 61, of Mathis, Texas passed away July 1, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 23, 1950 in Cameron, Texas to Denson Reginald Tindall and Joan Tindall. She was preceded in death by her father. Renee was a 4-H leader, member of Grace United Methodist Church, and a member of Northwest Business Association. She received the Small Business Owner of the Year Award and was a member of the first graduating class of the Travel and Tourism Industry. She exemplified strong leadership in the travel business and retail sector. She owned and operated Litton Travel and Treasures with her daughter Julie and was involved in various activities in the Northwest community. Litton Travel and Treasures was voted Best of the Best for several years. Her passion was traveling with her family. She was a very loving mother, daughter, wife, grandmother, sister, and aunt to all. Renee is survived by her husband, David Allen Matchett; daughters, Julie Painter Tilton and Trisha Painter Plagens; sons-in-law, Scott Evan Tilton and Jeffrey Wayne Plagens; five grandchildren, Chase Devon Willis, Ellie Makae Tilton, Olivia Ryan Tilton, Abby Elizabeth Plagens, Miley Ann Plagens; sisters, Lisa Ann Tindall and Laurie Beth Tindall; mother, Joan Tindall; a beloved niece. She was the daughter-in-law of Nelda Matchett and the late Tommie Lee Matchett, Sr. of Victoria, Texas. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace United Methodist Church with The Rev. Stan Whites officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Scott Tilton, Jeff Plagens, Chase Willis, Tommie Matchett, Jr., Bill Salge, Chris Salge, Tex Tilton, and James Mahan. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
