Peggy (Meme) Ann Wright passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025 at the age of 90, after a battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s.
Peggy was born on December 31st, 1934 to William Lee Rosebraugh and Reg Mae Wilson in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a graduate of Robstown High School. Peggy flourished in school and was quite popular with her fellow classmates, but none more than her sweetheart Billy. Their romantic tale started in a cotton field in the year 1947 where they met for the first time. Peggy was a beautiful girl and won many beauty contests and pageants. She was the Lion Club’s queen and FFA sweetheart just to name a few. She was a member of the student council and the future homemakers of America. She enjoyed being a cheerleader as well and was a member of The Rainbow girls club. She was voted most beautiful girl in high school. She was great friends with Kathryn (Grandstaff) Crosby, who later became Bing Crosby’s wife. Kathryn came back on occasion for high school reunions where they were reunited. We believe Bing came with her one time. Meme always was proud to show everyone her pictures taken with Kathryn whenever anyone visited her home.
She is survived by her son Randall Earl Wright and wife Karen Kay Wright of Corpus Christi; their children, Ryan Wright and his wife Angie Zavala Wright of Corpus Christi; Randa Kay Rios and husband Darrell Rios of Robstown; Jeffrey Lee Wright of College Station; Dr. Coy Allen Wright and his wife Tessa Wright and their three beautiful daughters, Emerson, Elliot, and Mae of College Station, the children and grandchildren of her deceased son Jeff Wright. She is also survived by her sister Marilyn Gibson and her husband Charles; Also, her nephew Pat Gibson and his wife Sheila; her other nephew Brad Gibson and his wife Jackie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death are her parents William Lee Rosebraugh and Reg Mae Rosebraugh; a brother Fred Rosebraugh; a son Billy E. Wright, Jr.; and another son Jeffrey Lee Wright
Peggy (Meme) was known to all to be a beautiful woman inside and out. She was known for her giving nature. She was blessed, so she was always willing to give to many different charities and her beloved church. She never missed church unless she was sick. Peggy was a devoted house wife, mother and grandmother. Socially, she also belonged to numerous clubs including the garden club, Wood River Women’s club and the Lunch Bunch to name a few. She was sometimes the chairman of her high school reunion committee and enjoyed reliving her high school memories with her former classmates. Peggy was definitely a social butterfly, and enjoyed hosting in her home, catering to friends and family alike. She was a wonderful cook and baker and known for her delicious foods and desserts. Her most famous dessert being her Red Velvet Cake. This cake was lovingly made by her, starting in 1962, for all of the family birthdays and celebrations. Every Sunday the family gathered at her home, after church, to gather around the big table and partake of her delicious dishes such as eggplant and squash casserole,, carrot and pea salads, fried flounder (gigged by Randy and Bill), homemade cherry pie, angel food cake with her special icing, chocolate ice box pie, and peach cobblers made from peaches from her own trees to name a few. There was never a meal that didn’t include a meat, salad, and vegetable, because she believed in a balanced meal and of course dessert which probably through it off balance. Whatever she had left off her peach trees, after putting them up for days, she shared with all of her neighbors making her very popular in the neighborhood. The only bad food meme ever made was her ground liver sandwiches according to her son Randy. She one time took them out to the field, to feed Bill while harvesting, and he proceeded to throw them away and commented on them being the worst food he ever had! This was almost a cause for a divorce after he made such fun of her sandwiches. She couldn’t quit crying. Meme also is well remembered by her family members for Her Special Red plate that she only got out at lunch or supper for one family member who had accomplished something important or for a birthday celebration for that specific family member. She even has a list and dates of when she used the plate through the years. You were really special if you received the red plate. As far as we know she, herself, never was the recipient of getting to eat in the red plate, so today the family brought the plate just to honor her. One trait she had was the habit of dating everything and we mean everything. From vacuums to light bulbs and of course all pictures. She even wrote stories on the backs of furniture, mementos, and pictures. Also, many happy memories for the family took place at Joe Cotton’s BBQ restaurant. Meme would make her famous red velvet cake and take it to the restaurant for most all of the family birthday/anniversary celebrations. Meme was known for always being an elegant lady and as her granddaughter Randa states, she was a “Dainty” lady. From her accessories to clothes to her shoes she always was stylish even on stay at home days. She was a true elegant southern lady. Meme was also known for her quick wit and comebacks. Even though she was a dainty lady, she could hunt like a pro. She was quite the marksman and even had her own deer stand at the Belo Naumann ranch simply called Meme’s tree stand. Only if she wasn’t sitting in it, was another family member welcome to use it. Many happy memories were made there with her husband, children and grandchildren and their dear friends Belo and Jeannie Naumann and family.
We, the family, want to thank and express our gratitude to the following caregivers: Teresa Alvarez, who devoted so much time to taking care of our Meme. She was able to reason with her and get her to do things like no one else could. She was a devoted and loving caregiver for her until her last days. Meme loved Terry, and in her final days, she enjoyed sharing stories with her about the past. We would also like to thank Najaly Castro, who took excellent care of her and Bill when she was still at home in the early days. She was kind and loving and patient with them both always. We also want to thank the Home Health care nurses for their loving care, Tanya Davis and Gabby Garcia. Many thanks go out to The Premier in Alice, Texas and Altus Hospice for all their wonderful care they provided for our loved one.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to your favorite charity in her honor or to the Arlington Heights Church of Christ Youth program.
