Paul Wilson

Paul Andrew Wilson, age 87, passed away peacefully November 27, 2020 after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. He was born March 28, 1933 in Vanoss, OK to Oscar L. Wilson and Lucille (Nowakowski) Wilson.

Paul was raised in the Houston, TX Memorial area and moved to Corpus Christi, TX during his junior year of high school. He was a 1954 Graduate of W. B. Ray High School. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, from 1955 to 1959.

Paul graduated from Texas A&I University, Kingsville, TX in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was also a licensed Texas Board Certified Professional Engineer. He began his career at Coastal States Gas Producing Company in Corpus Christi, TX.

Paul spent his entire career in the oil and gas industry, working throughout the US and in various positions, including as an engineer, consultant, inspector, and as President of High Plains Natural Gas. After retiring multiple times, he finally hung up his slide rule for good at age 85.

Paul served on the board of directors for the Texas A&I University Kingsville Alumni Association and the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Athletic Fund, and was President of the Lions Club in Canadian TX.

Paul had a passion for WWII history, planes, dove hunting, single malt scotch, Panjo’s pepperoni pizza, tending a fire pit, skeet shooting, golf, and Carol’s King Ranch casserole. He enjoyed an adult beverage, or two, while watching sports with friends and family at his favorite hide-away. “Tejas Paul” was also a member of SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) and the Texas Riviera Pistoleros, a welcoming group of men and women who always gave a helping hand. He was a member of the YMCA for over 40 years.

Paul was preceded in death by his mother Lucille N. Wilson, father Oscar L. Wilson, step-mother Gwendolyn Everett Wilson, and brother Donald Duggan.

Paul is survived by his wife Carol Wilson; daughter Tracy (Bryan) Peterson of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Kyle (Alyssa) Peterson of Falls Church, VA, Laura Peterson of Washington, DC, Hanna Peterson of New Haven, CT; step-children Robert (Edie) Crawford of Corpus Christi, TX, Mike (Leeann) Crawford of George West, TX, Angie (Pete) Petropoulos of Bonnie View, TX; step-grandchildren Shane (Reagan) Crawford, Shalena Crawford, Brandon (Robin) Crawford, Mitch (Kelsey) Crawford, Harrison Burleson, Hank (Kailey) Burleson, Dalton Byrum, Jo Lee (Carle) Storey; nine step great-grandchildren; and nephews Donald Duggan, Dean Duggan, and Chris Duggan.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Angel Bright Hospice, especially Maria, who made Paul’s last days comfortable, along with Dr. Neff and Dr. Salloum of Corpus Christi and Dr. Tannir and Dr. McAleer at MD Anderson Cancer Center, who gave him excellent care over the last five years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Paul to the Texas A&M Kingsville Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering or to the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islander Athletic Fund.

The memorial service will be at 11:30 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2021 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard St., Corpus Christi, TX 78410. Masks will be required. A graveside service will follow at Coastal Bend State Veteran’s Cemetery, 9974 I-37 Access Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78410. A Celebration of Life with friends and family will be held at a later date.
