Patty Lou Southard

Patty Lou Southard, age 91, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away May 10, 2021. She was born in DeFuniak Springs, Florida on September 16, 1929 to Littleton and Augusta Hamilton; she was the youngest among eight children. Following World War II, she married Robert Downer Southard on September 23, 1950; they moved to Corpus Christi shortly thereafter where they operated a small motel on North Beach. In 1956, they opened the R.D. Southard Cotton Gin in Robstown, which they owned for seventeen years. Outside of the cotton harvest season, she worked as a saleslady at Lieberman’s Department Store in Robstown. Years later, she opened her own retail business, Pat’s Ladies Apparel, in Calallen, and ran this establishment until she retired in 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert (March 21, 2011), her parents, one sister and six brothers. She is survived by her sons, George Robert "Bobby" (Sandy) Southard of Corpus Christi, Texas; Dallas Franklin (Judy) Southard of Corpus Christi, Texas; Jack Montgomery (Maria) Southard of Corpus Christi, Texas; granddaughters, Patty Jo (Andrew) James of Cypress, Texas, Cynthia (Efrain) Gaxiola of Austin, Texas; great grandsons, Taylor George James and Dylan Robert James of Cypress, Texas. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. with the family present, at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. in the Robstown Memorial Park.
