Oda "Odie" Cleveland McMeans, 93, of Banquete, Texas passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012. He was born January 11, 1919 in Karnes City, Texas to Clarence Dixon and Elvarena McCain McMeans. Odie graduated from Banquete High School in 1939 and was the oldest living Banquete Bulldog. During WWII he served as a Tec 5 in the Medical Detachment of the 70th Tank Battalion, U.S. Army. He was in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns and fought in the Battle of the Bulge and D Day as a combat medic driving a half track on the front lines. He retired from Gillring Oil Company after 41 years of service. While living in Robstown he was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he had served as the Chairman of the Board at one time and was a Robstown Fire Department volunteer. He helped establish and had been a Fire Commissioner for the Bluntzer Fire Department, and had been a member of the Banquete Lions Club. He attended River Hills Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ella Mae Schroeder, Marie Davis and Elvarena Powell; his brothers, Lee McMeans and Clyde McMeans; his first wife, Betty Jean McMeans and his second wife, Bonnie Rose McMeans. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Donald Wayne) Herrmann of Banquete, Texas, Debbie (Dexter) Menefee of Carrollton, Texas and Cindy (Bill) Poole of Angleton, Texas; his grandchildren, Jon (Lacey) Herrmann of Bluntzer, Texas, Scot (Jennifer) Herrmann of Calallen, Texas and Joe Herrmann of Bluntzer, Texas; Alison (Nate) Maas of Los Angeles, California, Colin Menefee of Carrollton, Texas, Morgan (Jeremy) Jeffers of Katy, Texas, Katie (Ryan) Summers of Tyler, Texas and Allen Poole of Angleton, Texas (He was known as Grandan to them and many of their friends); great grandchildren, Hallee, Hayes, Hank, Landon, Logan and Braden Herrmann and Addyson Jeffers; sister, Eddie Belle Carter of Robstown, Texas; brothers, Clarence McMeans, Jr. of Hemet, California and Edward (Charlotte) McMeans of Calallen, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, February 2, 2012 at River Hills Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Jon, Scot and Joe Herrmann, Colin Menefee, Allen Poole, Alison Maas, Morgan Jeffers and Katie Summers and his nephew, Wesley McMeans. Honorary pallbearers will be the Country Center/Carmen's Coffee Club.
