Norman Whetstone

Norman L. (Stretch) Whetstone, also affectionately known as "Buddy" by friends and family in his hometown, passed away at his home on July 23, 2012. He was born to Gaylard and Louise Whetstone in Sedan, Kansas on October 8, 1930. He served four years in the Navy. After his service he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where he married his wife of 60 years, Marsha Pierson. He retired from Reynolds Metals Company after 41 years in 1996. Stretch was active in his Church community of Real Life Fellowship in Corpus Christi. He was a man of great compassion and integrity. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Gaylard and C. Louise Whetstone, his sister Joan Enloe, his son, Jeff Whetstone and his grandson, Matt Whetstone. Stretch is survived by his wife, Marsha Whetstone; his sister, Linda (Mike) McDaniel; his daughters, Sheree (Don) Zonkel, Caryl (Lee) Reek and Staci (Darin) Pensyl; his daughter-in-law, Jenny (Joe V.) Whetstone Milliorn; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 9 a.m. in Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at 11 a.m. at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has request donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital In Memphis, Tennessee.
