Nathan David Roberts

July 19, 1957 — July 3, 2024

Corpus Christi

Nathan David Roberts, 66, of Corpus Christi, TX, suffered a massive coronary event while working Wednesday, July 3, 2024. He later died at Christus Spohn Shoreline that evening. He was born July 19, 1957, at Corpus Christi Osteopathic Hospital. Nathan was the owner of D & N Iron Works, LLC. He will be greatly missed by his family and by a host of friends and work associates.

Nathan was a Mighty Warrior. He attended Tuloso-Midway Independent School District in Corpus Christi for all twelve years. He graduated in 1976. He is a former member of Arlington Heights Church of Christ and was baptized in the Medina River while attending Bandina Christian Youth Camp, a summer camp that gave him great pleasure. Nathan was also a member of the Cub Scouts, with his mother, Ruby, serving as Cub Scout Leader, and then progressed to being a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 73. His father, Daniel, supported the troop and went on many of the campouts held at Camp Karankawa in Mathis. Nathan was awarded the Order of the Arrow which recognized scouts who best exemplified the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives.

After graduation, Nathan worked for various industrial companies in the area. In 1984, Daniel, his dad, established D & N Iron Works and Welding Shop. Nathan worked part-time in the evenings and on weekends until the company grew enough of a customer base to support two people. Upon Daniel’s retirement in 2005, Nathan continued working and growing the business. In 2019, with the onset of Covid 19 and the illness of his wife, the business was scaled back. Thoughts of selling the business were researched but didn’t seem the right thing to do. Shortly before Connie, his wife, passed, she expressed to Darlene that she knew that she was not Nathan’s first love. She knew working at D & N Iron Works was his first love and that was okay with her. Nathan was third in the legacy of blacksmithing, welding, and machining shop owners in Corpus Christi. His grandfather, David Yarborough Roberts, owned D.Y. Roberts and Son Blacksmith Shop in Clarkwood; his dad, Daniel David Roberts, started D & N Iron Works and Welding Shop, and Nathan David Roberts, owned and operated D & N Iron Works, LLC until his passing. Several of the customers served were served by all three Roberts men. Working at D & N Iron Works and visiting with customers and vendors made him extremely happy.

Nathan is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel D. and Ruby L. Roberts, his wife, Connie L. Roberts, his daughter, Sharon Roberts Dornwell, his son, Kevin W. Roberts, his stepson, Arnold Palacios, and his grandson, Chase Roberts. Left to cherish his memories are his sisters, Darlene (Steve) Burton, Connie (Brent) Willson, and Gail (Greg) Evans; his stepson, Vic Palacios, his stepdaughter, Linda Murphy, nine grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and good friend, Gary Fenner.

The Family would like to thank Nathan’s friends and acquaintances for all their support and kindness given to Nathan during his lifetime. He spoke graciously about you. Nathan believed in doing what he could to help his fellow man.

Funeral services will be announced on the Sawyer-George Funeral Home website when confirmed.
