Myrna Hunt

God gained a beautiful angel as we lost an adored one here on Earth. Myrna Gunnels Hunt, 72, departed this worldly existence and entered her heavenly home on June 24, 2016. She was born Myrna Eileen Gunnels on December 21, 1943 in Sweetwater, Texas to Claudene Faye and Wilborn E. Gunnels. Myrna graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1962 where she had a fun-filled 4 years as cheerleader captain and class favorite. She married her high school sweetheart, James D. "Jimmy" Hunt, and they shared 54 years together. Myrna was instrumental and a key component in the development of Kings Crossing Golf Course & Country Club where she moved into the Assistant General Manager position upon its opening and remained for many years. In 1998 Myrna became the General Manager of the Corpus Christi Yacht Club where, during her 13 year tenure, she became mother, grandmother, confidant & friend to so many members and staff. Members often had "Grandma Myrna or MyrMyr" entertain their children so the adults could enjoy their meal. In 2009 she became General Manager of River Hills Golf & Country Club before her retirement in 2011. Myrna worshiped her Lord & Savior as a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church where she so lovingly served on the Welcoming Committee and Mentoring Program. The congregation of her church couldn't wait to see her on Sunday mornings so each could receive their weekly hug. Myrna was preceded in death by her father, Wilborn E. Gunnels; mother, Claudene Faye Gunnels; sister & best friend, Sylvia June Stanford; and brothers, Virgil Gunnels & Robert Gunnels. She is survived by her husband, James D. "Jimmy" Hunt of Corpus Christi, Texas; her two children and the absolute loves of her life – son, Jeffrey Dale Hunt (Lisa) of Robstown, Texas and daughter, Jennifer Lieb (Gordon) of Austin, Texas; and four grandchildren – Carter James Hunt, Jared Dale Hunt, Katelyn Rene Lieb & Jackson Waite Lieb who were all her pride & joy. Myrna was deeply loved and she forever changed all whose lives she touched because of her beautiful, graceful & nurturing spirit. She will forever be remembered for her heartfelt hugs & her effortless ability to make everyone around her feel special. Although our hearts are broken and we've shed many tears at the loss of this extraordinary soul, we rejoice in knowing she is now sitting at the right hand of our Father. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carter Hunt, Jared Hunt, Gordon Lieb, Butch Gunnels, Melvin Hadamek & Joshua Hadamek. Honorary Pallbearers are Gerald Hunt, Rodney Stanford & Dwain McCain.
