Milton R. "Sonny" Barnes, Sr., 79, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012. He was born March 16, 1933 in San Angelo, Texas to Orie Wilburn and Ollie Cowley Barnes. He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He retired from Dowell Services after 32 years of service. Mr. Barnes was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Alice and Monahans. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Noveen Bernice Watts Barnes on August 24, 2012, his parents, a brother, Bernard Barnes, a sister, Gay Nell Barnes, and a brother-in-law, Don Boggs. He is survived by his sons, Milton R. Barnes, Jr. (Laurie) of Bulverde, Texas and Bill Barnes (K. C.) of Corpus Christi, Texas; his daughter, Deborah Oshman (Scot) of Corpus Christi, Texas; his sister, Evelyn Boggs of Monahans, Texas; his brother, Wayne Lee Barnes (Kathy) of Hot Springs, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Tara, RaDonna, Justin, Kari, Shane, Corrie and Hayley; seven great grandchildren. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery with Dr. Billy Storms officiating. Burial will follow. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Barnes, Shane Barnes, Jace Hinojosa, Johnny Boggs, Don Boggs, David Boggs, Cory Carter, Colby Carter and Micah Winkler.
