Mildred Wilhemena Ebert Lane passed away at 12:35 A.M. March 6, 2012. God sent a shooting star some 20 minutes before and was visible in the downtown sky of Corpus Christi. We were able to say goodbye and she passed away saying "I Love You". Mildred was born July 25, 1911 in Marvel, Arkansas, but moved to Springfield, Texas and enjoyed a happy childhood being raised on a small farm with her parents, Fritz and Bertha Ebert, and two sisters, Louise and Gladys, all now with the Lord. Mildred was A&I's oldest living alumni where she got her degree and later a Masters from Sul Ross and the University of Texas. Mildred taught school for 28 years in Alice, Odem and the Corpus Christi Independent School Districts. She married Ernest Lane of Odem who trained quarter horses for the King Ranch, including Miss Princess, who was a world champion. She was a devout Christian and enjoyed her many family and friends in Odem and taught Sunday School for 27 years. She traveled the world with family and friends, loved gardening and helped put several family members thru college, and so much more. She resided at Trinity Towers for the last 20 years where she still lived independently, walking almost a mile every day. Her mind stayed sharp as a tack. She celebrated her 100th birthday with roses, live music and champagne surrounded by many friends and family. Everyone who knew her said she was absolutely amazing, one of a kind. She will be remembered by many as Aunt Mildred, who took Linda and her friends on many school outings and her home was always open to her daughter's friends and classmates. A devout Christian, a member of First Baptist Church in Odem, she lived by her Bible and was loved by so many. She knew the meaning of courage, determination, forgiveness and more importantly love. We loved you Mother, Aunt Mildred, Mrs. Lane, and I, your daughter, adored you. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lane Anderson; friend, Mark Yeats of Corpus Christi; nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and other family members. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, March 9, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Willis Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Odem, Texas.
