Michael (Mike) Benck, born Oct. 1, 1965 in Los Angeles, CA. went home to be with the Lord on Sat., April 28, 2012, after a three-year battle with cancer. He and his wife owned Surface Concepts, a local Resurfacing Company. He was well respected by his customers as well as his employees. Michael enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. In addition to that just a few of his hobbies were putting golf balls and fishing with his son Joshua. He adored his daughter Kaliegh and no matter how old she got, she was always his baby girl. He was proud of her accomplishments so far and had great expectations for both Kaliegh and Joshua in the future. He instilled a great work ethic in all of us and taught us all to give your best at all you do. In addition to being a family man, Michael was blessed with a tremendous gift from God to play the drums. He practiced and practiced to mature & perfect that talent. Michael played in many bands growing up, including rock, country & even heavy metal bands as he ran from his true calling which was playing his drums for God. After running from God for years & numerous prayers from his mother he finally surrendered his life to God in 2002 and became a full time member of Tabernacle of Praise Church. Since then he played his drums with the praise and worship team. He played with such power and anointing that people were sometimes just in awe of the talent God had given him. He also assisted the Pastor in leading the men in the building of the new sanctuary, and always "put his hand to the plow" on any project that needed to be done at the church. His generosity, hard work, faithfulness, loving nature and love for the Lord were a great inspiration and example to others. He was well respected by those who knew him and will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Rudolph and Christine (Estrella) Haecker, of Corpus Christi, TX; and paternal grandparents: Edward Paul and Ann Elizabeth (Smith) Benck of Winona, Minnesota. He leaves behind his wife, Michelle (Cooper) Benck, a daughter, Kaliegh Benck, and a son, Joshua Benck. He is survived by his mother, Mary Louise (Haecker) Benck of Corpus Christi, TX, and father, Michael Edward Benck (Carol Benck) of Phoenix, AZ., a brother, Marc Benck (Michelle McLain) of Corpus Christi, and two sisters, Tricia Benck, of Corpus Christi, and Tracy Benck, of Arlington, TX. He was the proud uncle of five nephews and three nieces and is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be on Wednesday May 2, 2012 from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home.
