Melvin Ben "Monty" O'Bryant, moved forward to live in eternity with his Lord and Savior on September 22, 2013. He lived a full and joyous life with a loving family and many dear friends. He will be sorely missed but warmly remembered by the many he touched in his life. Monty was born on June 12, 1934 in Del Rio, TX, to Melvin Lawrence O'Bryant and Lizzie Belle Choate. He spent an adventurous childhood in Del Rio with his brother J.L. (Joseph Lee) which he recalled fondly and often. His grandmother, Mae Choate, who he considered a Saint, was very influential in his upbringing. The family moved to San Antonio after World War II and he graduated from San Marcos High School in 1951. Monty and his wife, Elenora ("Toots"), met in 1953 while working for Western Union in Corpus Christi, and were married shortly thereafter on June 12, 1954, in Tynan, TX. They were happily married for over 59 years. He worked for 37 years with CP&L as a power plant Operator, and was especially fond of the Training role he tackled late in his career. Monty was very proud of his children and was crazy about his eight grandsons and seven great-grandchildren. He loved his many friends as though they were family. He shared his overwhelming love of music with his children and this will be devotedly passed on to future generations. He will be remembered affectionately by the love his life, Elenora Helen Dieringer, his children Yvonne Marie Jaggard, Kellie Rae Rogers, and Darryl Gordon O'Bryant and their spouses Thomas Peter Jaggard, Allen Ray Rogers, and Tina Marie Salge O'Bryant. He will live on in the memory and actions of his beloved grandsons: Justin, Jay and Jeremy Jaggard; Bret, Brandon, and Dalton Rogers; and Dylan and Kelvin O'Bryant. His seeds of wisdom and humor will be passed on to his great grandchildren: Tatiana and Thomas Jaggard; Luke, Levi and Anna Rogers; and Jane and Owen Rogers. Monty also leaves his dearly loved brother J.L. O'Bryant and his wife Mary Ann Green. Monty will greatly miss his "Thursday lunch buddy" and his "Band of Brothers" but will patiently await their next meeting. He joins his youngest child, Monty Lee O'Bryant, and first grandchild April Rae Rogers in the "great by and by". A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday September 26th, at Grace United Methodist Church, 14521 Northwest Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX.
