Melvin Lylen McNair of Driscoll, Texas passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012. He was 85 years old. Melvin was born on February 6, 1927 to Jessie and Terrell McNair. He was a farmer by trade, but by life, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He spent many hours with family and friends enjoying life at the lake and at the hunting lease. His friends knew him as "Catfish" and his family knew him as "Mac". Melvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bishop. He was always active in his community. He served as Driscoll School Board President for many years and coached Little League and served as Scout Master for two Boy Scout Troops. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy. He served on numerous Boards within the farming community and earned the "Outstanding Young Farmer" Award. Even after his retirement from farming, he still worked and guided his sons to continue the farming tradition. He loved the farming life and he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid game player. Melvin graduated from Robstown High School and attended Texas A & M College Station and Texas A & I Kingsville. He was married to Helen Fox for 63 years and they raised three sons together. His sons were always a tremendous source of pride for Mac. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Terrell McNair and one brother, Winfred McNair. He is survived by his wife, Helen McNair; three sons, David McNair, Donny McNair (Sweetie) and Larry McNair (Lisa); two grandsons, Brad McNair and Lincoln McNair (Nikki); three granddaughters, Lindey Sappington (Jessie), Erin McNair and Morgan McNair; three great grandchildren, Sydnee, Ben and Ethan Sappington. He is also survived by his brother, Bill McNair (Joy). Visitation will be from 1 P.M. until 7 P.M. with the family present from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held privately prior to the memorial service at the Robstown Memorial Park. Services will be Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Bishop at 2 P.M. with The Rev. Beth Tatum officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad McNair, Lincoln McNair, Jessie Sappington, Mike McNair, Chad Fox, Curtis Fox, Jr. and Charlie Cornett.
