Marlon D. “Cotton” Atwood, Sr., 82, of Sandia, Texas, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014. He was born October 4, 1931 in Rising Star, Texas to Clarence Ford Atwood and Mable Erwin Atwood. Cotton was employed in the oil and gas industry in the field of drilling and marine pipeline. He traveled extensively, working in Mexico, Venezuela, North of France, Ghana on the Ivory Coast of Africa, Port Gentil South East Africa and Lagos, Nigeria. Cotton was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Maxine and Laverne, and his brother, Roland. He is survived by his sons, Marlon “Woody” (Jennifer) Atwood, Jr. and Geoff (Tammy) Atwood; his daughter, Susan (Bobby) Wynn; seven grandchildren, Kimber-Lea (Taylor) Wiggins, Will, Karrigan, Devin, and Reese Atwood, Justin and Travis Wynn; one great grandchild, Madelynn Wiggins; one brother, Doug (Doris) Atwood; one sister, Vondell (Charles) Cranford; and the love of his life for 63 years, Jan. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. with the family present from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Monday, August 18, 2014 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park.
