Marilee Deer

Marilee Deer, 86, a longtime resident of Corpus Christi, TX passed away on Wednesday June 27, 2018. She was born in Beeville, TX on December 22, 1931 to Walter Calhoun and Mary Hodges Calhoun. She was a Beeville High School and SMU Graduate. She was an Elementary Grade School Teacher for 20 years. She donated over 40+ years in helping children through the organization, "Elidad Temple Daughters of The Nile" and several other organizations. She was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church. Marilee had a lot of long lasting friendships and truly enjoyed playing weekly games with groups of wonderful ladies. Marilee was the matriarch of the family and always a source of joy and togetherness. While she had an elegant and proper demeanor she knew how to have fun and live life to the fullest. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her. On August 11, 1952, Marilee married, Jack A. Deer and they celebrated 60 years of marriage until Jack's passing on November 12, 2012. Marilee is preceded in death by her parents to Walter Calhoun and Mary Hodges Calhoun, husband Jack A. Deer, beloved sister Dorothy Carter and husband Ray Don, and son Steven Deer. Marilee is survived by sons David Deer (wife Cheryl), Jeff Deer (wife Lajuan), her grandchildren Angela Spinhirne (husband Lucas), Wesley Deer (wife Shelley), Steven Deer II (wife Jenna), and Bubba Wilder, her great-grandchildren Mary Claire, Lynlee, Ethan, Cadence, Hunter, Harper, and Mia, loving nieces Lisa, Diane, and Christie as well as their families and many other extended family members who she loved. Services will be held at Sawyer George Funeral Home in Calallen, TX on Saturday June 30, 2018. Visitation/Viewing at 1:00pm, Funeral Services will be officiated by Pastor Jason Fry and Pastor Rebekah Rochte at 2:00pm, Gravesite Service will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville, TX.
