Marian Salge

Marian Jackson Salge, age 87, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away July 22, 2016. She was born February 27, 1929 in Floresville, Texas to Van Aubrey and Margaret Jackson. She was an active member of Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder for two separate terms and as a Deacon (one of the original 4 Deacons), a member of the vision committee for the Mary Lois Fields Learning Center. Mrs. Salge graduated Orange Grove High School in 1946, graduated with a B.B.A. from the University of Texas in 1951. She earned her master’s degree in education from Corpus Christi State University in 1979. Her teaching career spanned many years with the Calallen and Tuloso-Midway I.S.D. She was one of the original 12 teachers that opened the first Magee Elementary school. She taught at Magee Elementary for 16 years, then in the position as Educational Diagnostician at Middle and High School levels for Calallen and Tuloso-Midway schools. She retired from Calallen I.S.D. in 1989. She served as classroom teacher and Tutor Trainer with the Corpus Christi Literacy Council for 15 years. She was an active member of the Corpus Christi Retired Teachers Association (serving as a Board Member), Member of Winner’s Investment Club, Book Discussion Group, South Texas Sew-Ciety group, American Association of University Women, Monthly Bridge Group and various community activities. She married Allen J. Salge in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 1, 1952. She was preceded in death by her husband Allen Salge in June 2000, her parents, a brother, Van A. Jackson Jr. and a son-in-law, Fred Mauldin. She is survived by her children, Debra Salge of San Antonio, Texas, Steve A. Salge of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Emily Mauldin, Abby Salge, Lesley Salge, and Paul Salge. Visitation with the family will be on Monday. July 25, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. in the Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Robstown Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Corpus Christi Literacy Council or the charity of your choice.
