Maria Elena Montalvo de Ledesma, 79, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away the morning of January 27, 2021, in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she lived for 43 beautiful years. She was born in Monterrey, Mexico and was raised in Laredo, Texas.
Maria was known as Nana to all who knew her. Nana was a housewife and babysitter to many children. You could always find her sitting in the stands at volleyball games, basketball games, football games, baseball games, softball games and track meets. She was her grandchildren’s greatest and biggest fan. She made sure to attend everything from sports to award ceremonies, luncheons, performances etc. She enjoyed playing bingo, gambling, spending time with her family, and making memories with her loving husband and best friend of 53 years. Nana always had a smile on her face. She was the life of the party especially with a Pina Colada in hand. She always welcomed everyone into her home and usually they left with a full belly.
Maria was preceded in death by her mother, Zulema Pena; her father, Jose P. Montalvo Sr.; her stepmother, Rafaela Montalvo; her brothers, Jose P. Montalvo Jr., and Sergio Montalvo. She is survived by her husband, Juan M. Ledesma Sr.; her children, Juan M. Ledesma Jr. (Phyllis), Ernesto A. Ledesma (Monica) and Veronica De La Garza. Along with her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Christopher, Jessica, Zachary, Bella, Yvanna, Mariela, Alec and Isaac. She was blessed to see her great grandchildren, Myranda, Brianna, Clara, Brason, Kason, Brenden, Bethany and Ella. She is also survived by her siblings, Alfredo de la Garza (Diana), Jose Rafael Montalvo (Nina), Rolando Montalvo (Emma), Maria Montalvo –Walters (Steve), Hector Montalvo (Maria Guadalupe), Lupita Mendez (Guillermo), Maria Teresa Montalvo, Veronica P. Covington (Luis), Juan Francisco Montalvo, MD (Ada), and Gilbert Montalvo (Susana).
A Visitation will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm with a Rosary to be Recited at 7:00 pm at Sawyer George Funeral Home, 12497 Leopard St., Corpus Christi, TX 78410. On Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at 9:30 am, Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter Prince of the Apostle Catholic Church, 3901 Violet Rd., Corpus Christi, TX 78410, followed by a procession to Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH-37, Corpus Christi, TX 78410, where Maria will be laid to rest.
