Sandia, TX Margaret Elizabeth (Franks) Johnson, 83, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017 at her home in Sandia, Texas. She was born August 25, 1933 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy and received her Associate of Arts degree in English from Del Mar College. Margaret was a charter member of the Industrial Noon Lions Club in Corpus Christi, Texas and a founding member of the “Buffet Bells” at the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show Auction where she was very active from the 70's to the 90's. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Don Johnson; her parents, Walter Augustus Franks and Wilhelmina Augusta Franks and her sister, Patricia Norvell. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Blalock; her sons, Keith (Linda) Johnson, Kenny (Kathy) Johnson, and David Johnson; grandchildren, Karen (Daniel) Skoruppa-Key, James (Courtni) Skoruppa, Rachelle (Shannon) Gatewood, Kevin (Juliet) Johnson, Kyle (Lindsey) Johnson, Kendra (Weldon “Bullet”) Riebschleager; her brother, Reverend Gabriel Franks; and her sisters, Lillian Hatch, Barbara Hicks, Joan Benys and Mary Baird; as well as numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A Rosary Vigil will be recited at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Orange Grove, Texas with Fr. Prince Kuruvila as celebrant. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas. Pallbearers will be James Skoruppa, Kevin Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Shannon Gatewood, Weldon “Bullet” Riebschleager Jr., Daniel Key and Alexander Skoruppa. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to St. John of the Cross Catholic Church Memorial Fund, Lions Club International or the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show. The family wishes to thank her longtime friend and caregiver, Roseanne Cavazos and New Century Hospice staff with special thanks to Leticia Martinez for their special care of Mrs. Johnson.
