Linda Schanen

June 27, 1945 — February 9, 2017

Linda McBurnett Schanen, treasured wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away in her home February 9, 2017 at the age of 71. Linda's love, her uplifting spirit, her strength, and her grace warmed and inspired the hearts of those she knew. Linda was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 27, 1945, the eldest child of David and Dewees McBurnett. She and her family lived in Corpus Christi then moved to White Rock, New Mexico. Shortly after the move to White Rock, Linda's family moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1950. The McBurnett family returned to Robstown in 1958 and Linda graduated from Robstown High School in 1963. Linda attended the University of Houston for one year where she pledged Chi Omega sorority. She married her high school sweetheart Glynn Edward Schanen in September, 1964. Linda and Glynn settled in the city of Robstown and lived there 43 years. Linda created a happy home for Glynn and her two children, Amy and Dean. She returned to college and graduated from Corpus Christi State University (now Texas A&M Corpus Christi.) Linda spent 22 years inspiring children by teaching grades 1-5 at Magee Elementary School in Calallen ISD. Linda and Glynn retired and moved to Wimberley, Texas in 2009. There they made many new friends and became active members of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Linda's passions were her family, her friends, and her faith. She created a warm home and many fond memories within, especially during the holidays. Time spent with her grandchildren was particularly sweet. The grandkids have many fond memories of the fun had at Oma and Opa's house. She is survived by her spouse, Glynn Schanen of Wimberley, Texas; her daughter Amy and her husband Steve Thomas of Fredericksburg, Texas; Dr. Dean Schanen and his wife Amber of Bee Cave, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren Aaron Thomas, Kathryn Schanen, and Libby Schanen. Her brother Dr. David Barry McBurnett, his wife Sandra, and brother Randall Russ McBurnett also survive her. The family would like to thank the Bible Babes of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Hospice Austin, and the many others who supported Linda and her family through prayer, love, and kindness. The family will have a graveside service at 2 P.M. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Robstown, Texas. Graveside services are entrusted to Sawyer-George Funeral Home, Inc. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Wimberley, Texas at a later date. Please contact St. Stephen's for memorial service information. In lieu of flowers, Linda has asked donations be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church or School.
