Lester Miller

Lester Eugene “Bubba” Miller was born February 27, 1934 to Sally Kate Rolls and Lester E. Miller at the Midway Cotton Gin, Taft, Texas where his father was a ginner. Lester grew up in Odem, Texas and graduated from Odem High School in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduation and served four years. Upon discharge in 1956, Lester went to work for Southwestern Oil and Refining Co. in Corpus Christi. He retired after 40 years of service in 1995. Lester supported his community in many ways. He coached Little League baseball, filmed high school football games and served two terms on the Odem City Council. He was a member of the Odem Church of Christ. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Charlie Curtiss and brother-in-law, Preston Miller. Lester is survived by his high school sweetheart of 62 years, Betty; sons, Ray (Ann) Miller and Glen (Joy) Miller; grandchildren, Kelly (Todd) Edwards, Justin (Courtney) Miller, Megan Miller, Kyle Miller, Kasey Miller and Angie (GW) Garrott; great grandchildren, Reed and Reagan Edwards, Berkley and Beckham Miller, Colton Young, Parker and Major Garrott. He is also survived by his sister, Billie Jean Miller and brothers, Joe (Joyce) and Bill (Gerrie) Miller. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Evergreen Cemetery in Odem. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to a charity of your choice. Hines, Bay Area Hospital third floor west nurses and staff and Heart Hospital ICU nurses and staff for the wonderful care that Lester received.
