Leslie "Les" Mel Allen took his last breath the morning of Thursday August 27th, 2015 at the age of 61. He was a God-fearing man who lived his life to the absolute fullest. Les was larger than life, louder than Kyle Field, and loved deeper than the Rio Grande. He liked to say that life is black-and-white and when you asked him how he was doing he probably responded with one of his favorite metaphors such as "finer than frogs hair" or "if I was any better I'd have to sell tickets". Les was born on January 15th, 1954 in Bellefontaine, Ohio to Melbourne and Marian Allen. He was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas where he attended W.B. Ray High School. Les proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1972-1978 where he was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, TX. He later attended both Texas A&M University and the University of Houston-Victoria. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and go fishing along the Gulf Coast. Les caught the love of his life, Jenny Lynn Allen, in Casper, Wyoming and dedicated the rest of his life to her on July 25th, 1983. They raised two children, Derek M. Allen (an Offshore Logistics Coordinator) and Ashley L. Allen (an Investigator for the Department of Family and Protective Services of the State of Texas). Les enjoyed a fulfilling international career in the oilfield which provided him the opportunity to see the world. Les was known for his honesty and integrity and made friends all over the globe including Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Bolivia, and even Angola. Les is survived by his parents, one brother, John Allen (Tracy); his niece. Morgan and nephew John (Houston, TX); his wife, Jenny Allen (Yorktown, TX); his children, Derek Allen (Yorktown, TX) , Ashley Allen (Austin, TX), and John N. Allen (Teressia, Arkansas), and one granddaughter, Morgan Allen (Corpus Christi, TX). Funeral services will be conducted at the Annaville Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, TX on Friday, September 4th, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery. In honor of the men and women that have fought for our country, the family asks that in lieu of flowers well wishers make a donation in his name to the Wound Warriors Project of their choosing.
