Lesle Boyd Cox Jr

September 28, 1944 — December 26, 2024

Corpus Christi

Lesle “Les” Boyd Cox, Jr. died on December 26, 2024.

Lesle was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on September 28, 1944 to Juanita Irene (Smith) Cox and Lesle Boyd Cox, Sr., who preceded him in death.

Les attended North Beach Elementary School, Tuloso-Midway School, and Del Mar College. He served as a hospital cook at Vandenburg Air Force Base in California and made box lunches for B-52 squadron in Newfoundland. He was a ship’s cook aboard the USS Suribachi AE-21, USS Forrest Sherman DD 931, and USS Schofield DEG-3, and was a Vietnam Veteran. Following his military career, Les drove a taxi for cab companies in Corpus Christi, Aransas Pass and Tallahassee, Florida for a total of 22 years, which included night manager of Airport Limousine Service in Corpus Christi.

Les expressed deep appreciation the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program that enabled him to live out his final years in the comfort of safe and affordable housing. He was especially grateful to his “angels,” Cathy, Alison and Kim, who worked to preserve his dignity while advocating for his military benefits.

In the later years of his life, Les was reunited with his daughter, Peggy-Sue, of Massachusetts, who personified compassion through letters and photographs of her growing family. This opened the way for Les to be reconciled in death with his own mother and father, his sister Linda Ruth, and his grandparents, aunts and uncles who helped raise him. He now rests in peace, redeemed.

Graveside services will be held at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi
