Leonilo Garcia, M.D. of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away April 24, 2016. He was born May 15, 1946 in Monterey, Mexico to Leonilo Martinez Garcia and Leonor Olivares de Garcia. When a Neonate nurse asks one of the physicians that works with her to become her children’s pediatrician, it says a lot about what kind of a physician that doctor is. Leo Garcia was a Neonatologist before most people could even spell the word. A pediatrician and neonatologist of the highest caliber, Dr. Leo Garcia practiced the art of medicine with such a kind and knowledgeable manner that the parents of his many, many patients were truly fortunate to have him care for their children. Leo was dealt a very, very rough set of cards to play as far as his health was concerned but he always managed to deal with his lot with dignity while treating his caregivers with kindness and understanding. He always asked about others’ health, family, work and endeavored to make the conversations about the visitor and not about his own problems. Illness took away his incredible gift of healing from so many children and he will long be remembered fondly by many grateful parents. We will miss him dearly and wish for him the comfort and peace he richly deserves. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Leonilo and Leonor Garcia; and his wife, Diane Young Garcia. He is survived by his son, Patrick Allen Garcia of Corpus Christi; brother, Jose Luis Garcia (Leticia); nephew, Jose Luis Garcia; nieces, Carolina Garcia and Leticia Garcia, all of Monterey, Mexico; mother-in-law, Barbara Young (George) Houmes; god-children, Brian Scott and Kimberli Scott. Visitation will be Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 am Friday, April 29, 2016 at Rose Hill Memorial Park with Dale Mathis officiating. Burial will follow. Those who wish may make contributions to Driscoll Children’s Hospital Neonatal Unit.
