Leo Raymond Vrana, 89, passed from this life to the next with family beside him on Sunday, February 20, 2011 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born in Moravia, Texas on March 21, 1921 to Ignac Bohuslav Vrana and Millie Olsovsky Vrana, the fourth of six children. Leo was a Pearl Harbor survivor and was awarded six campaign ribbons; Asiatic Pacific Theater - six bronze battle stars; American Defense; American Campaign; WWII Victory; WWII Occupation - Navy; Philippine Liberation - two bronze stars; the Good Conduct medal and the Presidential Unit Citation for the Leyte Gulf surface engagement. Leo was honorably discharged November, 1946, and returned to Robstown to join his father in their construction business. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He attended Robstown High School and graduated in 1938. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ignac and Millie Vrana, sisters, Frances Rektorik, Cecelia Just, and Bernice Hellmann Klosterman, and brother, Theodore Vrana. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Henrietta Prochaska Vrana; his children, Suzanne Vrana, Mary Shafer (Mark Shafer), Steve Vrana and Greg Vrana; grandchildren, Valerie Collins (Chris Collins) and Megan Shafer; great grandchildren, Eric Shafer and Olivia Collins; sister, Georgia Blumberg; and several nieces and nephews. The Rosary will be recited at 7 P.M. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at 10 A.M. Thursday, February 24, 2011 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Robstown. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park with military honors.
