Leo D. Champion, age 75, of Corpus Christi, Texas succumbed to cancer after a long and courageous battle on March 30, 2014. He was born January 2, 1939 in Marshall, Texas to William Frank and Ethel Pearl Champion. Leo graduated Miller High School and attended Del Mar College. He was employed with Billings Oil Service, Grayburn Company and was the Superintendent of the South Texas District for Nowsco Services. Leo was a member of West Heights Baptist Church and a member of Valley A.P.I. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Charlie Brown, William Frank, Andrew, William Carroll, Jody Franklin and Jimalee Champion. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty four years, Zelma Champion; daughter, Ricki Lynn (Jeff) Champion; sons, Leo “Bo” Champion, Leon “John” (Mary) Champion; grandchildren, Krystle, Katina, Kolby Champion; Ami, Allison, Travis Lyons all of Corpus Christi, Texas; great grandchildren, Tony and Rey of Corpus Christi, Texas; nieces and nephews, Jody, Mary, Patsy, Pete, Josh, Jeff Champion, Steve Lyons; close friends, Carl Lundmark and Gordon Henderson. He is also survived by five playful puppies and a grumpy cat. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jackson Ormond, Dr. Orel Everett and the staff of Bay Area Day Surgery, Dr. Mahmood and Dr. Voorhees and the staff of the Cancer Center. Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Sawyer-George Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Watson officiating.
