Leatha Scarborough

Leatha “Dete” Scarborough was born at home in the Banquete community on June 17, 1933. She passed away peacefully at her home in the Banquete community on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Leatha was preceded in death by her parents, Versa Virginia Scarborough and William Edgar Scarborough and her sister, Jacqueline “Sissy” Scarborough. She is survived by her siblings, Sue Reagan of Mathis, Texas, Janice Freund of Belton, Texas, Faye Jean Kimball of New Braunfels, Texas, Virginia (Tom) Lewis of Evergreen, Colorado, Bill (Pat) Scarborough of Santa Ana, Texas, Ruth Ann (Jim) Akers of Fredericksburg, Texas and Jack (Dianne) Scarborough of Banquete, Texas. She grew up and lived in the Banquete community her entire life and devoted her life to her family and the Scarborough Ranch. Leatha graduated from Banquete High School in 1950 and attended Texas A&I in Kingsville, Texas. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Banquete for over 40 years. She was loved by and loved being surrounded by myriads of family members, 25 nieces and nephews, 57 great nieces and nephews, 48 great great nieces and nephews, by many, many faithful friends and her beloved cows, horses, cats and dogs! The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for the love and care given by Fela Urrea and Irma Mireles. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Banquete Cemetery following the services. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to: South Texas Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1210, Beeville, Texas 78104; First Baptist Church of Banquete, P.O. Box 430, Banquete, Texas 78339 or a charity of your choosing. Pallbearers will be Richard Reagan, Jimmy Kimball, Ronny Reagan, Raymond Rebecek, Tobin Scarborough, Clint Reagan, Pepe Martinez, and Ruben Ramirez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jose Ramirez and Jesse Urrea.
